'Tis the Season

Leila doing her best to pose for her Thanksgiving photo

Another first holiday in the books for Leila. We enjoyed a fantastic Thanksgiving with Matt's family out in the Chicago burbs. Leila kindly slept through dinner, so Matt and I were able to enjoy all the yummy food, and then woke up just in time for dessert, although we ended up taking it to go because she'd had her fill of smiling faces in her grill all day and being passed around the room to adoring family members. One funny new parent moment occurred as we arrived at Auntie Karen's for dinner...after driving from Great Grandma's house to Karen's, we had finally got Leila to nap after a long afternoon of no napping; we didn't want to cheat her out of much needed sleep and were afraid the noisy household would certainly wake her if we went in, so instead we sat in our car outside the house for about 20 minutes until we were flagged in from the front window. As we sat in our car, we looked at each other and had to laugh at the lengths we will go to for an extra 20 minutes of sleep. It's kind of like charging a cell phone...every extra minute makes a difference. Anyway, it turned out we didn't even need to worry about her waking, as she ended up sleeping another hour or so once we got inside. Isn't that a common theme?...planning that something will go one way and it goes another!

Thanksgiving #1, the end.

Our Black Friday walk in the chilly weather

After a great Thanksgiving, we spent the weekend decorating the house for Christmas. I use the term "we" loosely, as Matt watched t.v. and Leila slept through most of the decorating, but we were in the same room for at least some of it. Does that count? With the house all decorated and the tree up, I'm definitely in the holiday spirit and am excited for Leila's first Christmas. Even if she won't understand it all this year, it's fun to introduce her to all the traditions that we'll continue as she grows up.

We ended the weekend watching the Bears end their season. Enough said.

This was obviously taken pre-game...
