Not So Terrible Two

Well, it's here! Leila's 2nd Birthday. We had a great celebration last weekend with friends and family at our house, enjoying our backyard and new grill...oh, and a visit from Elmo too. The party continued with Papa P's visit, playing with new toys, feeding ducks, and a fun birthday dinner.

As I said in my last entry, I simply cannot believe my baby is two. So cliche, so been-said-before, but so true...kids grow up too fast, especially when they're your own. On one hand it feels like Leila has been in my life forever (or as Matt said this morning..."isn't she turning 10 today?"), but on the other hand it seems like just yesterday that she was first learning to sit...walk...talk...throw tantrums. Oh wait, the tantrum WAS yesterday. With all the hype for the "terrible twos," I have to say that although her independence is shining through, her wonderful personality is also making itself known, and I just can't imagine this phase being terrible. Again with a little sadness, I say goodbye to year two, but excitedly look forward to all the genius, funny things this little girl will do and say next as she continues to develop and learn over her third year.

And now for a look at our week full of celebration (this is a long one!)

Papa P and Leila read the morning paper before getting ready for the big party...

The party setup...

Happy family!

Waiting for the party to start...

Chocolate pretzel with Gigi

Besides the balloons, this was Leila's favorite part of the day...

An attempt to get a picture of all the kids went about as well as Elmo's visit...

Opening a few presents before bedtime

Day after the party: Leila and her balloons are inseparable

Enjoying time with Papa P.

Feeding ducks...oh and geese too. The geese tried to attack, which of course left Leila terrified (not Elmo costume terrified, but close)

New obsession..Play Doh!

A birthday morning in the park. Leila loves to listen to the big bell tower near the river, so we had to stop for a bell break during our walk.

Birthday song and cake, again!

Happy Birthday to my sweet, fun, smart, hilarious, beautiful daughter!
